For more than three decades, Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam, DDS, has been a pediatric dentist at the practice she started in 1992. As a partner, owner, and practitioner at Gilliam Dentistry, Dr. Connie Bruce-Gilliam, DDS, has provided oral care to infants, children, and adolescents.
Dr. Bruce-Gilliam’s multifaceted role includes promoting the importance of routine dental care to parents and children and providing them with information on preventive nutrition. In addition to caring for her patients, Dr. Bruce-Gilliam is responsible for the continuing education of her dental assistants, hygienists, and office coordinators.
Some of the milestones the dentist has achieved throughout her 33 years in pediatric dentistry include being the first pediatric dentist in Onslow County, North Carolina; the first Black woman dentist in Onslow County; and the first Black pediatric dentist in the Down East Region of North Carolina. In 2010, the Northeast Community Development Corporation recognized her by naming her its Intriguing African American Woman for her contributions to community health and education. She also received the White Lotus Lifetime Achievement from the NC Project Lead 2023 for leadership and community involvement.
Dr. Bruce-Gilliam’s professional affiliations include memberships in the National Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Bruce-Gilliam’s training and education include a bachelor’s degree in biology, a doctor of dentistry, and a degree in pediatric dentistry, all from Howard University. In her personal time, she enjoys walking, bicycling, and reading. She currently resides in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
